QuietCool Support Articles, Videos and FAQs
Below you’ll find articles, videos and FAQs for operating your QuietCool whole house fan.
What is a Whole House Fan?
A whole house fan is a type of fan or exhaust system that is installed in the attic of a home designed to circulate, exhaust, and ventilate air. A whole house fan is often confused with an attic fan which only exhausts the hot air inside the attic rather than the entire volume of air inside of the home.
How do I tell which system I need?
To determine which system you need we simply use a ratio of 2, 2.5 and 3 CFM for every 1 square foot of your home. This will give you a basic, advanced and superior system, respectively. We recommend closer to 3 CFM, but no less than 2 CFM for the QuietCool whole house fan system to work at full potential.
Can a whole house fan use a thermostat?
You cannot use a thermostat when using a QuietCool Whole House Fan System. When using our system, you need to always have a window open. When using a thermostat you have no one to open a window in your house when the thermostat turns on your system automatically.
Do whole house fans affect the insulation in my attic when turned on?
With the proper amount of ventilation and proper installation, there should be no effect on the attic insulation in your home.
How can you get the best use of your system?
You can get the best use of your system by running your fan in the early morning and evening, and then closing up all the windows in your house. Doing this will cool off your attic and home and it will take a lot longer for your home to heat up. This will help your home to stay cool and save you money.
Can I use my fan with air conditioning?
Here at QuietCool we do not recommend running your A/C and your QuietCool Whole House Fan System at the same time. It would cool your home but it would be very expensive and not the best solution.
Will I feel a breeze throughout the house?
With the proper QuietCool Whole House Fan system in your home, you will feel and experience the QuietCool breeze. We believe and tell everyone that our QuietCool systems are a “breeze on a switch.” The QuietCool system will immediately make your skin feel 10 degrees cooler.
Do I need a dedicated circuit for a QuietCool whole house fan?
None of our QuietCool models require a dedicated circuit to operate correctly. All QuietCool models run between 1 to 10 amps and should work fine on an existing circuit.
How does a Whole House Fan work?
A whole house fan pulls air into a home from open windows and exhausts it through the attic and out the attic vents. This provides good home and attic ventilation in addition to a great cooling effect in your home. We recommend installing a system that provides 15-22 complete air exchanges per hour.
How long will it take for my home to cool down?
The amount of time it takes to cool your home depends on many factors, such as type of system, location, time of day, etc. The QuietCool Whole House Fan System will immediately start cooling your home with 15-22 complete air exchanges per hour. Over time your fan will cool the walls, floor, contents and attic of your home, helping your home stay cooler longer.
Should I open all my windows in my home when operating a whole house fan?
No, we recommend that you open very few select windows to match the proper net free venting of your home. The best way to use your system is crack a window on the opposite side of your bedroom or hallway. This causes your fan to pull the air all the way across your bedroom or hallway to help cool your entire home quikcly and efficiently.
When should you use your QuietCool Whole House Fan?
The QuietCool whole house fan system works best in the early morning and evening time. You will want to run your system whenever the outside temperature is cooler than the tempurature inside your home. You can also use your QuietCool whole house fan system in the winter during the warmest time of the day for several minutes to remove any odors, pet dander, smoke or any foul smells.
Does the QuietCool Whole House Fan System work during the daytime?
Yes, you can run it in the day time, but it will only cool when the temperature outside is cooler than the temperature inside your home.
Is a timer necessary with my QuietCool Whole House Fan System?
Yes, we always recommend a timer because you can really get the best performance from your system. A timer allows you to control and set your QuietCool whole house fan system at 1 hour, 2 hour, 4 hour and 8 hour increments. It also allows you to set your timer at a hold/on position.
Will the QuietCool Whole House Fan System also cool my attic?
